Course 1 – Introduction to Financial Statements

The introduction to financial statements course is comprised of 8 videos that cover why financial statements are important, what financial statements are, and fundamentally how financial statements provide information that addresses how well companies have performed on the key factors of business success. Also included is the coverage of the environment in which financial statements are prepared and used as well as the concept of corporate governance.

Course 1 Learning Objectives

  • Describe why financial statements are important and how they are used
  • Describe the four financial statements and explain how they differ.
  • List the 5 basic questions, in order, that cover the concepts measured by the financial statements.
  • Use actual dollar values from actual financial statements to answer the 5 basic questions.
  • Describe the economic forces that influence the preparation, use, and analysis of the financial statements.
  • Define the concept of corporate governance and how it relates to the financial statements.
  • Describe the key areas of running a business and how they relate to how capital flows through the business.
  • Link the key areas of running a business and their results to the financial statements.

CPE Requirements

  1. The assessment Quiz must be completed satisfactorily no later than one year after enrollment, at which time your access to the website will expire.
  2. A 70% minimum score on Assessment Quiz is required for satisfactory completion and to receive a certificate.
